About DMC

DMC was developed by Senior Medical Scientist Con Kostakis, Principal Executive Officer of DMC, in search of a more innovative and transparent model of delivering private pathology, that:

• Provides a legal means for doctors to own their own health care asset (affording them the same benefits as fellow citizens and patients who own shares in publicly listed pathology companies)
• Involves referring Doctors in the quality control and strategic direction of their own diagnostics business
• Continuously works with Medicare, NATA and other authorities to ensure the highest standards of care.

The DMC model was developed over 10 years of prolonged negotiations with:

• Federal Ministers for Health
• Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing
• Health Insurance Commission (Medicare Australia)
• Department of Commerce (Registry of Co-operatives) obtaining all regulatory approvals and licences

DMC has all the Approvals required by the Federal Authorities including:

• APA (Approved Pathology Authority)
• NATA Accreditation
• APL (Approved Pathology Laboratory)
• APP (Approved Pathology Practitioner)

Diagnostic Medical Co-operative commenced providing pathology services to a small group of NSW doctors in February 2007. In April 2008 DMC commenced providing services to Adelaide based members and their patients.

Since March 1 2008: New Federal Health Insurance Legislation reconfirms the DMC Model. Permitted Benefits:

The distribution of profits or shares from the operation of a business that renders pathology or diagnostic imaging services, provided that the amount of the benefit is proportionate to the interest that the beneficiary holds in the body corporate, trust, partnership or other body that carries on the business;
